The girls under 11 white team coached by Scott Murray took home the CSL League Cup with an immpressive run against the top four finishers in the CSL league season. In pool play the 11’s defeated South Bay Gunners from the Bronze Zeta division 4-1 and Los Gauchos from Bronze Gamma 2-0.
In the round of 16 the girls defeated Legends the number two finisher from the Silver Elite South 1-0. Later in the day they faced Barcelona who tied for first place in Silver Elite North and defeated them in penalty kicks after a 1-1 regulation game with goal coming from Gina Eide. In the Semi-Finals RSC faced Silver Elite South number one So Cal Blues in the rain and mud at the Oaks Polo fields. Turning in a gutsy hard fought effort on goals from Gina Eide and Caitlyn Cota RSC put down the Blues 2-0 with an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Lauren Marcarelli.
In the final the girls faced Silver Elite North Co-Champion South Bay Force. With the field being moved to J Serra turf fields mud was not going to be a factor. Getting a very late start (3:30) and playing in a miserable cold driving rain the girls went down 2-0 at half to South Bay. With amazing resolve the team battled back in the second half and got a truly amazing goal from the right foot of Karla Alas 10 minutes in. 10 minutes later a scramble was created on the left side of South Bay’s box and Gina Eide was there to poke home the goal to tie the game and cap an amazing comeback. The white team dodged a couple bullets toward the end of regulation but defended well to take the game into OT. After two 7 minute overtime periods played in almost complete darkness it was on to PK’s under the stadium lights. RSC went 4 out of 5 on their pk’s and South Bay went 3 for 5 with the last shooter smacking the crossbar to complete a true Cinderella story for the team.
Congratulations again to the girls and their families on a great tournament and braving the elements on the weekend!
