Congratulations to Kristy Walker’s G18 team for winning Fall Far West Regional League this weekend and securing a spot in the Regional Championships that will be held in New Mexico in June 2010. The 3 game/4 team pool highlighted 2 teams from Southern California, one from Nor Cal and one from Arizona. The opening game Saturday morning versus Sereno was a tough fought battle with the AZ team scoring first. The Real girls didn’t give up and fought hard to come back scoring late in the second half to secure the tie. The afternoon game was a different story with the Real girls coming out hard and fast to take the lead 2-0 in the first 30 minutes. Shortly into the 2nd half, the Mustang team netted a goal to pull within one. Real quickly responded with another goal to make the score 3-1 before the Nor Cal team was forced to forfeit due to the ejection of their only coach. Going into Sunday’s match against the So Cal rival team – Legends, the Real girls knew they needed the outright win to absolutely secure the bid to Regionals. They played with that kind of urgency and took the match 3-0, scoring once in the first half and twice in the 2nd half. The team is now looking forward to Surf College Cup this coming weekend where they will attempt to capture an unprecedented 8th consecutive Thanksgiving Surf Cup championship.
