RSC helps warm up the "Sol" for season start...

RSC B16 White, led by coach Norman Mejia, scrimmaged the LA Sol on Saturday to help them to get ready for the start of the season. The match pitted Norman’s U16 "boys", one of So Cal’s strongest teams against the new league’s flagship team, and perhaps the world’s best female player, the Brazilian... "Marta".

The match was tight, a classic example of strength vs technique. RSC was physically superior, but the Sol were strong tactically and technically. The game was tied at ones until the final minutes when RSC player Cory Vilchis put one past the Sol keeper. It was a thrill to watch Marta play. Her vision is excellent, and she showed flashes of speed and agility in tight spaces.

Sol coach Abner Rogers said the the match was perfect preparation for the WPS inaugural season. "... Many of the teams have drafted world class athletic players, focusing on speed and size... the boys gave us a good feel for that sort of game..."

At the end of the match, there were handshakes all around, some autographs, and a combined team picture. RSC wishes the Sol all the best in their first match of the year.
