Overview

Jack “JT” Thomas May III (born 17 January 1974, in San Antonio, Texas) is an American club soccer coach who is currently with Real So Cal soccer club in Los Angeles, California. He has been coaching with Real So Cal (So Cal United) since 2001 and has taken part in 3of 6 Real So Cal’s USYS National Championships as an assistant coach to Program Director Alberto “AB” Bru.

 

Personal

May resides in Lake Balboa, California and is married to Andreia Hachimoto-May. He graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2009 with a B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis on Family Studies. In January 2010, he began his M.A. from Phillips Graduate Institute in Encino, California. May’s anticipated graduation date is May 2011 with an M.A. in Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.

 

Playing Career

May played for Azusa Pacific University in 1997. In 1996, May played for Santa Barbara City College under coach Tim Vom Steeg. May served as captain for the 1996 California Community College State Champion Vaqueros. 

 

Coaching Career

Santa Barbara City College

May’s first coaching job came in 1998 when he served as assistant coach to Vom Steeg’s Santa Barbara City College men’s soccer squad. The Vaqueros made it to the State Final Four in 1998. 

 

UC Santa Barbara

May was hired as the assistant coach of Vom Steeg’s UC Santa Barbara in 1999. The Gauchos men’s soccer program received immediate results. UC Santa Barbara went from a record of 2-17-1 under their former coaching staff in 1998 to a record of 13-7-0 in 1999.

 

In 2000, May was hired as the volunteer assistant to Schellas Hyndman’s Southern Methodist University men’s soccer program. The Mustangs made their first NCAA Division 1 Final Four appearance in 2000 where they eventually lost to the University of Connecticut, the 2000 NCAA Division 1 National Champion.

 

Real So Cal

May’s first competitive club soccer job came in 2001 with Nationally ranked So Cal United/Real So Cal soccer club. In So Cal United/Real So Cal, May worked with established coaches such as Scott Murray, Kristy Walker, Steve Sampson and Alberto “AB” Bru. Once settled in with So Cal United, May took on the assistant coaching role under mentor and Program Director Alberto “AB” Bru. May and Bru won 3 USYS National Championships together in years 2005, 2006 and 2007. As a head coach, May guided the Bu14 So Cal United squad to a National Cup championship in 2003. May has coached numerous collegiate scholarship soccer players, as well as Major League Soccer players.

 

Currently, May serves as Youth Program Coordinator with Real So Cal soccer club, has a USSF “Y” Youth license and USSF “B” license.
